DaDa Theatremakers

Intro
DaDa Theatremakers condensed a tailored theatre skills course into 20 weeks of workshops and mentoring for disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent artists.

Who's involved?
Our 2020/21 cohort is made up of 8 artists who received support from the DaDa team, Unity Theatre and guest theatre professionals.

Why do we need it?
The programme was created in response to the barriers faced by disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent artists in relation to accessing training in the arts. Through DaDa Theatremakers, we identify and invest in emerging actors, writers, directors, theatremakers and creatives to nurture and champion those artists. This will increase the visibility and profile of disabled, Deaf and neurodivergent theatremakers in this country and beyond.

How does it work?

DaDa Theatremakers covers not just what it means to perform onstage, but also the process by which an artist can get there. Masterclasses include: directing, creative writing, how to pitch an idea to programmers and industry leaders.

Partners
DaDa Theatremakers was supported by the Unity Theatre and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation
