I am able, but disabled
by DaDa x NSDF company-member, Madison Freeman
Sound of waves
Seagulls
A breath
Sound of waves
A breath
I am very able but disabled
People don’t see what’s underneath of this invisible sheet that I call skin.
I am able to look at you in the eyes but it’s stigmatised
That it’s a hindrance and not a skill that I can learn.
I am able to be creative and set new boundaries
Make shift my own destiny Come up with an epiphany
Just like the norm I do belong.
I have an EHCP for a reason
So then when I was in school it pleased them.
I am able to play with others
However it was never the kids it was their mothers
The misconception of everything autistic is just screaming, crying
And parents going ballistic.
That might be what you see
But it’s deeper than that.
Now listen to the line that I said at the start.
I am very able but disabled
People don’t see what’s underneath of this invisible sheet that I call skin.
