What is your role at DaDa?
I am Marketing and Communications Consultant.
What does that mean?
I lead on all things Marketing and Communications for DaDa currently on a part time basis.
Tell us a bit about your background
I started my career in arts based youth and community work, touring schools as part of a 'music in education' girlband, using music, assemblies and lunch time clubs to share positive messaging around body image etc.
After studying Creative and Performing Arts at Uni I joined Creativebias (part of the Music Development Agency) where I became Enterprise Coordinator, supporting creatives to set up their own enterprises.
From there I joined The Women's Organisation (a gender equality focused enterprise support charity) where I worked for 13 years becoming Head of Marketing, Communications and Community Engagement, managing a team of staff, supporting development of marketing based training and offering one to one advice. In January of 2022 I shifted to running my own charity specialist marketing consultancy 'Marketing with Jo' through which I've supported local and national non-profits in health and social care, homelessness, arts, employability, alternative education and enterprise.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I've always been a keen supporter of charity and the arts so have supported Sefton Carers Centre in creating a carers choir some time ago, and recently supported Sefton Citizen's Advice as a Trustee.
I still work in a freelance capacity outside of my work at DaDa delivering training and consultancy around marketing and communications, and supporting organisations with strategy and structure.
I've been known to perform at poetry nights and write my own music for open mic nights, but it has been a little while as I now have kids who tell mummy to "shush" when I try to practice. I love theatre, listening to music and comedy nights, so will hop on the chance to attend those things when childcare allows.
