Unsung

A DaDaFest and Turf Love production

09th March 2016 - 12th March 2016
unsung

A Caribbean slave ship, a Liverpool bookshop.

Sometimes silence is not an option.

Edward, an uneducated Everton boy, goes to sea on a slave ship. When his best friend – a former African slave – drowns saving Edward’s life, his world changes forever.

Spanning oceans and continents, and inspired by words and events in the life of Liverpool abolitionist, poet and human rights campaigner, Edward Rushton, Unsung is the turbulent and uplifting story of one man’s capacity to see beyond the prejudices of his time.

Produced by DaDaFest, the internationally acclaimed disability arts company, with Turf Love (Beating Berlusconi!).

Unsung featured British Sign Language Interpretation, Audio Description (with a ‘Touch Tour’ beforehand) and captions.

Reviews

“It’s ambitious storytelling, not just in its narrative scope, but also in the way it’s told. Unsung is at the Everyman until Saturday, and it would be a shame if its journey ended with that final curtain call, because it’s an important story to tell.” – Catherine Jones, Liverpool Echo – www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/theatre-news/review-unsung-liverpool-everyman-11018073

“Chuck Mike’s rendition of ‘Unsung’ sings beautifully to your soul and is a stunning homage paid by Liverpool to one of its own.” – Mythili Rane, Purple Revolver – www.purplerevolver.com/style/theatre/125459-unsung-at-the-liverpool-everyman-theatre.html

“Edward Rushton as ‘a glaring example of a heroic figure who was written out of history.’ This production of his life will help rectify this.” – Colin Serjent, Nerve Magazine – www.catalystmedia.org.uk/reviews/unsung2.php
