Religion and Disability: An Open Meeting
How do the major religion’s shape our perception of disability?

30 November, Quaker Meeting House, 22 School Lane, L1 3BT

This year, internationally renowned dance artist Claire Cunningham is our unofficial artist in residence during the festival.

During her time in Liverpool she will give three performances of two different pieces, lead an intensive workshop and deliver a keynote at the festival Congress on December 2nd.

The subject matter explored in her work, particularly in Guide Gods, looks at the relationship between religion and disability. Guide Gods will be presented at Our Lady and St Nick’s Church on the Strand on 1 December. It’s a free performance and we hope that you will also be able to addend one of these shows too.

To compliment this performance and to support Claire’s work and research in this area, DaDaFest are hosting a multi faith meeting where we are inviting faith leaders from across the city along with community members who are active within a faith to come together in a facilitated conversation to explore perceptions of disability from the perspective of different faiths.

Rather than question a particular faith’s attitude towards disability, we are asking individuals to explore their own ideas and how this links to and may be shaped by their faith.

Please come and join Claire Cunningham and DaDaFest on 30 November between 10.30 and 12.30 at the Quaker Meeting House on School Lane for this discussion.

We are delighted that Luke Pell will be joining us to facilitate the discussion. Luke is a dance artist and performance maker with a background in both disability arts and an incredible talent for nurturing sensitive conversations.

Guide Gods will be performed at St Nicks Church on December 1st at 2pm and 7pm.

To see a short film which gives an insight into the issues explored in the performance, follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huMtyfHFPsI.

If you are able to attend, please RSVP to Rachel Rogers, Festival Producer at rachelr@dadafest.co.uk. Please do pass this invitation on to others who you think would like to attend.

Please note, this conversation will be recorded. The recording will not be made public and will form part of Claire’s research into religion and disability.
