Ruth Laraba Barnabas is a Deaf storyteller, communications specialist, and emerging documentary practitioner based in Nigeria. Her work is rooted in lived experience and disability advocacy, using storytelling to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities and people living with chronic illness. Working across writing, photography, and documentary, she brings marginalized stories into public and cultural spaces.
A bilateral cochlear implant user, Ruth explores themes of disability, identity, resilience, and belonging, with a strong commitment to ethical representation and access. Alongside her creative practice, she is a women’s and disability rights advocate and is currently developing Chronically Together, an initiative focused on community, self-advocacy, and empowerment for people living with chronic illness.
