Kadisha Kayani is a young, asian, disabled poet and multi-disciplinary artist from Liverpool, who focuses on work for socio-political change in the community. They have been working in the industry for over four years and are a keen participant in projects such as Bronze Arts Award with Collective Encounters, 20 Stories High’s Sound System which included drumming and singing workshops and CinemaNation Toxteth’s Scalarama Film Festival where they co-hosted and presented film work.

They have worked and performed in a number of shows including 20 Stories High’s ‘Our Time’, ‘INDEBTED’ and the National tour of ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, all which they devised scenes and music for working in the group. Their creative strengths are spoken word and using movement for performance. They are currently on a course with Flood Theatre which explores what it means to be a Queer artist. They are practising self-reflective writing and physical theatre work under the theme of identity, which is enabling them to reconnect with their past and to collaborate with other artists to gain inspiration.

Kadisha has been an active writer for several years and is well known in Liverpool for poetry and spoken word. They have performed at several open mic nights including at A Lovely Word in Everyman Playhouse Theatre and with famous spoken word artist, Lokwey, and pianist Karim Kamar at SQUASH in 2018. They are thrilled to be on this course and are looking forward to using this bursary to incorporate more musical elements to their work, to work on their song-writing and strengthen their musical improvisation skills.
