Festival Bebas Batas is set to be Indonesia’s first festival of work by disabled artists. Running in Jakarta from 12-29 October 2018, it will encompass four elements:

  • A visual arts exhibition, curated and delivered by Indonesia’s National Gallery, working with a collective of disabled and non-disabled artists
  • A series of creative projects delivered by disability organisations, and exhibited in public transport locations – bus stops, railway stations and airport terminals
  • Seminar and talks programme
  • A programme of events, performances and installations

The Festival aims to enable Indonesia’s fledgling disability arts movement to gain wider public support. It will also support Indonesian disabled artists, and those who share their aims, to develop their practice by working with artists and organisations from the UK.

DaDaFest is working with the British Council to enable UK artists and companies to participate in element four of the proposed programme for Festival Bebas Batas revolving around events, performances and installations. We are providing advice and guidance to the festival curatorial team on best practice engagement and access approaches. In consultation with the British Council and with Indonesian disabled artists we will also manage and award, a number of commissions to UK artists or organisations to support the festival.
